100 Gold is a municipal office building in the heart of the Financial District. The city plans to destroy and redevelop the building into a supertower. While we at Save 100 Gold acknowledge the housing crisis, we also need to acknowledge the lack of office space in the Financial District.
100 Gold exemplifies the sad brutalist architecture movement. Its heritage and beauty enliven the neighborhood. With your help, we can preserve 100 Gold as the first landmarked 1950s era office building.
100 Gold’s stateliness and charm provides light to nearly 30% of the employees. It dually houses a senior center in the basement. Thanks to the asbestos, it is an energy-efficient building. It also functions as a wilderness preserve. Mice, rats and even wasps would be displaced if the building is torn down.
